Astragalus is the dried root of the leguminous plant Mongolian Astragalus or membranous Astragalus, primarily containing saponins, flavonoids, polysaccharides, and amino acids. It has the effects of tonifying qi, raising yang, strengthening the defensive energy, consolidating the exterior, expelling toxins, promoting tissue regeneration, promoting diuresis, and reducing swelling. Clinically, it can be used to treat many diseases.
      The extraction of astragalus generally employs an alcohol extraction process, often using traditional filtration methods such as plate and frame filters, diatomaceous earth, centrifugation, or alcohol extraction followed by water precipitation. Due to their low precision, these filtration methods cannot completely remove impurities such as tannins, starch, and large molecular proteins from the extract, resulting in astragalus saponins with low purity and poor quality.
